L'Antica Besseta, one of the oldest Venetian trattorias, is located just minutes from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia Station, off the typical tourist paths. Beloved by locals, it sits alongside the renowned Salizada de Cร Zusto, the narrowest street in Venice. The name "Antica Besseta" is derived from the ancient Venetian dialect term for "Bessi," a type of currency. In the 1800s, the establishment began as a small osteria, where the proprietor's elderly sister occasionally provided food and "Bessi" to the less fortunate in the area.
