El Teatre Principal de Barcelona, originally known as Teatre de la Santa Creu and later Teatre de l'Hospital, stands as the city's oldest theater and one of the oldest in Spain. Located at Rambla 27, it operated from the mid-16th century until 2006 and was briefly reopened in 2013 before closing permanently in February 2017. Between 1919 and 1986, it predominantly served as a cinema, while from 1872 to 1906, the upper floor housed the Ateneu Barcelonès.
